Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
